A kitchen breakfast nook is ideal but if you don’t have enough space, it should be near the kitchen area.
The exhaust fan and its location is a very important aspect to consider when remodeling. Consider a powerful exhaust fan and it should be located right on top of your gas stove for it to be effective. If you are renovating a kitchen, consider getting a pot-filler next to your gas stove just so that you are not dropping water while going back and forth between the stove and the sink. Speaking of sink, if space allows, consider getting two kitchen sinks in your remodeled kitchen. One sink will house the dirty dishes and the other can be used to wash vegetables, drain pasta etc.
A nice island in the kitchen enhances it but if you don’t have space for it, consider a peninsula and room for bar stools. Choosing a granite that matches the cabinet colors and your sensibilities is very important. Be aware that the pattern of the granite doesn’t make is difficult to install it in smaller counter areas. Consider choosing a back-splash which is pretty yet at the same time is not high maintenance. Depends on the amount of cooking you will be doing and how much back-splash maintenance will be required.
Now lets talk about flooring. Choose a tile color that matches your kitchen colors but don’t go for a thick grout. Choose tiles that are not hard to clean and thin grout makes the cleaning maintenance easier. Kitchen appliances are also very important to choose both in terms of size, location and brand.
